A Glass Of Wine
Has anyone ever think of having tea in a crystal expensive glass? Having red wine in a mug or a cup. It not only sounds weird, looks weird and feels weird but also kills the essence of any drink. That is why it’s always ‘a glass of water’ and a cup of tea’ exceptions are there and it’s not a rule of thumb as, it won’t change the taste of any drink though. Wine in a wine glass (yes! Rarely heard) but that is something a preset rule, what is this a rule of thumb? No it’s not but don’t forget the essence of wine. What is more important? To feel what one is doing? What one is having? How one is living? That is the most important element of life.
Talking about wine glasses brings the major question of the shape of wine glass, “why the shape is different from an ordinary glass” why usually wine is served in a Wine glass otherwise it loses the feel of a wine? Let’s discuss about the most asked question regarding the shape of a wine glass… there is an elegant stem nicely placed below that round shape glass the reason of the stem is not only, to look the glass pretty but also, to hold the wine glass. This leads the topic towards a unique property of wine which is the temperature of this liquid, technically when one holds a crystal whiskey decanter from the round (circle) side instead of the stem; it actually heats up the cold wine again which reduces the essence and taste of the wine moreover it helps the consumer to swirl the wine while drinking.
Beyond aesthetics there are some other mind boggling researches which have been done regarding the relation between taste and shape of the glass. After thorough study and experiments it was concluded that, yes taste varies from design to design. The size of the glass allows how much air entered in the wine, the actual shape decides the flow of the liquid when entering the glass, and diameter controls the speed of the flow and how it travels till the bottom of the quality champagne glasses. This amazingly creative link between wine glass and taste of the wine was generated first by Mr. Claus J. Riedel. He was the person who when made the first glass factory introduced the shape, which could not only be wrapped by the consumer’s fingers but also to their taste buds. Creatively within less than a decade he made wide range of wine glasses contains different colors, sizes and shapes to add value to the uniqueness of the variety of glasses.
So there are some types of glasses, but consider wine glass as the most prominently pretty among all. Genuinely nobody has imagined that glass could have been available with such an amazing holding facility and it will be known as a ‘stem’ for multipurpose for wine.
